Start with the no-cost checks
- Official state registration enquiries help you check registration details.
- The Australian Government Vehicle Recalls website publishes recall notices; confirm the exact VIN and outstanding work with the manufacturer.
- Compare the physical VIN, seller’s documents, service book and available invoices.
These are separate checks. A registration result or a manufacturer recall response is not a national finance clearance.
Understand the paid PPSR option
The official PPSR currently lists A$2 for an online self-service vehicle search. It searches for registered security interests against the vehicle identifier and supplies a certificate. Available stolen and written-off information may also be supplied, subject to coverage.
RegoLens is an independent commercial service charging A$10 for its report presentation and original PPSR certificate. Our price is the RegoLens service price, not the government search fee. You can choose the official self-service option instead.
Check what a free offer actually includes
Before entering payment details, look for the complete price, any recurring charge, the business contact details and the specific records included. A free preview might only identify the vehicle. Read the checkout before treating it as a complete history report.
Write down the question you still need answered: registration, recorded finance, recalls or mechanical condition. That makes it easier to judge whether the next service adds useful information.
Combine the findings without assuming complete coverage
Make a short buying file with four headings: identity, records, condition and seller documents. Save the result or evidence under the relevant heading, together with its date. Leave an unanswered question open until you have reliable evidence for it.
No combination of online checks can promise every accident, repair or ownership event. A qualified inspection and careful review of the actual vehicle remain useful even when the available records show no concerns.
