Know the car before you buy

VIN check: start with the car’s identifier

A VIN follows the vehicle. Match it carefully, then use it to request the report for the car you are actually buying.

Use the complete VIN

The RegoLens VIN form accepts a full 17-character vehicle identification number. Enter the letters and numbers exactly as shown on the vehicle. A masked number or a partial VIN cannot identify the car for this search.

Check before you purchase

When you enter a VIN directly, RegoLens asks you to confirm it before payment; vehicle details have not been retrieved at that stage. Compare the number on the car with the registration paperwork and seller documents. A correctly formatted number is not proof it belongs to that vehicle.

What comes next

After the A$10 payment is confirmed, the service requests the paid search and prepares the available report and original certificate. Keep the purchase reference. If an older vehicle has a shorter chassis number, do not add characters to make it fit: use the official PPSR options for that identifier.

A VIN check is a starting point

Use the same VIN for the report, the manufacturer recall enquiry and your buying file. An identifier that is valid in format does not establish a car’s complete history. Review the report coverage and inspect the actual vehicle.
