Choose the state on the registration plate

Have the plate number ready and select its registration jurisdiction. The location of the seller or the place you plan to drive the car may be different. The links below take you to government services or their instructions; RegoLens does not operate those enquiries.

Read the result for the correct vehicle

Compare the make, model and other available details with the car and seller’s paperwork. Record when you checked. If the result does not match, check your typing and resolve the difference before continuing.

Available information differs by jurisdiction. An expiry date is useful for a registration question; it does not tell you who is entitled to sell the car or whether it is mechanically sound.

Registration is one part of your buying checks

Keep the registration result beside the seller’s documents, a current PPSR certificate and the inspection findings. Use this comparison of rego and vehicle history checks to choose the next step.

If a state enquiry is temporarily unavailable, return to that official service later. A failed enquiry is not evidence of a clear vehicle or proof of a problem with the car.

Where RegoLens fits

The RegoLens rego lookup helps identify a vehicle before you choose whether to buy an A$10 report. It does not replace the official state registration service. You can also start your report using a full VIN.
